What is Counselling?

If you have reached a point where you feel you are unable to move forward, for whatever reason, counselling may help.

Talking about your problems with a trained professional can offer you a new perspective and help you develop deeper insight into your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and choices.

Counselling offers an opportunity to explore your struggles and difficulties in a non-judgemental, open and confidential space.

You will be heard and supported without being judged or criticised.  I won't give advice or tell you what to do but we can look together at practical ways of working towards your goals.  Sometimes, you may just want to begin with 'telling your story.'

The counselling process can help you to see your situation more clearly.  It can enable you to move forward, empowered to make your own decisions and change situations and behaviours that feel 'stuck.'

Counselling aims to offer hope for this new, healthier way of being.

Assessment Session

Initially we will meet for a 50 minute assessment session.

This allows us to look at your goals and you will have the opportunity to talk about the issues that are troubling you.

We will look at my contract together and agree how I will provide my services.

During the first session, or at any time during your therapy, you can ask anything you want to know about my qualifications and experience.  You can also ask about your therapy and question anything you don't understand.

Counselling can help with Physical Symptoms...

You may come to counselling to help deal with symptoms for which there is no obvious physical cause.  Carrying tension in your body as a result of stress and anxiety can cause symptoms such as headaches, back and neck problems, palpitations and feelings of panic and breathlessness.  These symptoms can be managed by talking with a counsellor and by learning new strategies that will help you cope and change.

It can also help with...

  • Abuse

  • Addiction

  • Anger management

  • Anxiety and negative thoughts

  • Bereavement and grief

  • Depression

  • Loss and hopelessness

  • Low confidence and self esteem

  • OCD and compulsive behaviours

  • Panic attacks

  • Phobias

  • Relationships and family conflict

  • Self-harming behaviours

  • Stress

  • and more....
